Company History
Gurley Motor Company was purchased in 1933 by C. E. Gurley as a sole proprietor under the name of Central Motor Company. In 1946 the company was incorporated, and in 1975 the name was changed to Gurley Motor Company. We are now a third-generation family-owned business with Pat Gurley as president and his son, Steve, as a vice-president and general manager.
Gurley Motor Company is the cornerstone of all our related businesses. In order to increase sales volume and to accommodate the financing and insurance needs of our customers, we formed our own insurance and financing operations. Southwest General Insurance Company was founded in 2000 and Red Rock Investment Company was formed in 1959. Southwest Credit Life, Inc. started in 1979.
While Gurley Motor Company enjoyed steady growth and profitability in its formative years, it came into prominence in the mid 1960s. Since then, both the parent and its allied companies have continued to prosper.
Starting in 1967 and continuing to this date, Gurley Motor Company's track record for sales has reached lofty goals not only on a regional basis, but also nationally. However, sales volume is only part of the equation in any successful business. The other part deals with controlling overhead and expenses. To that end, the Gurley Motor companies have assembled a young, experienced and aggressive management team with a very capable and trained staff.
Goals and objectives are set monthly and monitored daily. Daily operating controls along with monthly financial statements allow management to evaluate performance and to modify procedures to achieve desired results.
Our business mission at Gurley Motor Company is to sell and service our products at a reasonable profit which will produce satisfied customers and which will provide our employees with a rewarding employment career and the opportunity for the Company to prosper and continue to contribute to our community and its citizens.
